Wales has a long history of producing talented artists such as Sir Kyffin Williams but also attracts creatives from further afield who are enticed by the beautiful countryside and spectacular landscapes.
Since moving to North Wales, Life:Full Colour founder Sara McKee has met a vast array of creative people and has been embraced by the arts community. There’s a thriving art scene in the Land of Dragons and we encourage you to explore the many galleries and exhibition spaces across the country.
Here’s just some of the arts events going on between now and over Christmas in North Wales.
The Royal Cambrian Academy (RCA) welcomes the winter with a fabulous, eclectic array of art, showcasing work from Wales’ finest leading and emerging artists. There is a wide selection of affordable works for sale off the wall, including works by the brilliant Jan Gardner whose art features at the top of this post.

A curious set of accompanying sea structures appear in Jamie Barnes’ work, not only the obvious structures such as lighthouses, but also more unusual, such as orientation beacons, transmitters and glowering power stations. Visit the Oriel at Mostyn Gallery in Llandudno for this exhibition of drawings inspired by the artist’s explorations of coastal paths around Wales, Anglesey, Northumberland, Cumbria and Scotland.
Mostyn Gallery is also hosting an exhibition by Magnum photographer David Hurn, As it is: Man’s Footprint on the Welsh Landscape until 26 January 2020 and a new body of work by Japanese artist Nobuko Tsuchiya.
An innovative exhibition of visual art and contemporary craft by a variety of artists. The open exhibition is unique – with no geographical or age restrictions and open to professional and amateur artists and students. The show features our friend Pea Restall who is a potter and a painter.
The Dewis Y Bobl Award is open to the public vote until Friday 13 December at 2pm so you can vote for your favourite. Galeri is located in Caernarfon, Gwynedd and is home to a cinema and cafe /bar. Further information.
