Gauguin Portraits, National Gallery

Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) was a French post-impressionist artist whose works have inspired the likes of Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse.

This exhibition at the National Gallery will showcase Gauguin’s portraits, spanning his early years as an artist through to his later years spent in French Polynesia.

It will feature about fifty works including paintings, works on paper, and three-dimensional objects in a variety of media. A group of self portraits will be on display including his self-image as ‘Christ in the Garden of Olives’, 1889 (Norton Gallery of Art, West Palm Beach).
