I love art that radiates the warmth of summer.  Paintings that capture the season’s light, colour, and joyous atmosphere. John Singer Sargent’s watercolour ‘Simplon Pass: Reading’ portrays leisurely moments in lush, green gardens, reflecting the relaxed and joyous spirit of summer. “To live with Sargent’s watercolours is to live with sunshine captured and held,” according to the painter’s first biographer.

Andrew Jenkin – contemporary watercolour artist

Andrew Jenkin brings to Life: Full Colour his own interpretation of season and place with his latest collection of original watercolours. From 29^th June, we’ll be showcasing Andrew’s stunning images of urban settings, landscapes and boating scenes. All featured upstairs at ‘Celf Palas’ in Caernarfon. Andrew often works in Caernarfon either from our Atelier at Segontiwm Terrace or en plein air in the streets around the Castle and harbour.

Bold Light of Summer

In Edward Hopper’s “Second Story Sunlight” the clean geometrical shapes of the building are framed by the foliage in the background which leads out of the right-hand side of the painting. The balanced body positions of the two figures appears to direct their attention out of the frame of the picture. They encourage us to imagine what is grabbing their attention.
