The first Art Institute exhibition devoted exclusively to Édouard Manet in over 50 years focuses on the transformation of the artist’s style in his later years.
This exhibition begins in the late 1870s when Édouard Manet had become recognised as a painter of modern life. More than 90 works are on view including watercolours, large-scale multifigure paintings like In the Conservatory and Boating, and portraits of Jeanne Demarsy and Méry Laurent.
The exhibition also includes rarely seen letters Manet wrote to his friends, embellished with finely detailed illustrations of fruits and flowers.
