Louise Morgan RCA challenges the prevailing notion of artists having a singular voice in her latest exhibition, “Figuratively Speaking,” at Life: Full Colour. The show, which combines a diverse range of subjects including landscapes, portraits, nudes, and figurative paintings, showcases Louise’s love for light.

With over 30 artworks, the exhibition takes viewers on a journey where Louise’s distinct style permeates each painting, from Caernarfon street scenes to introspective depictions of the mother-child bond and nostalgic works inspired by her own childhood memories.

Louise’s rebellion against artistic conformity is evident in her incorporation of mystery and unique mark-making techniques, as she constantly experiments with a variety of tools and materials.

Influenced by artists such as Turner, van Gogh, and Peter Prendergast, Louise draws from a diverse array of inspirations, with light and movement serving as crucial elements that unify the exhibition. By defying traditional expectations, Louise aims to liberate art from categorization and invites gallery visitors to embrace the expansive realm of artistic expression.

Figuratively Speaking by Louise Morgan RCA opens at Life: Full Colour on 23 June and will run until 5 August. Life: Full Colour is located at 23-25 Hole in the Wall, Caernarfon. The gallery is open every Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 6pm.

Working primarily from plein air and memory, Louise Morgan is compelled to capture light and movement in the Welsh landscape. The constantly changing weather conditions in Snowdonia and the surrounding area, mean that she has to work rapidly.

Predominantly painting with palette knives outside in the open air and finishing the artwork in the studio, she wipes areas out or defines highlights by scraping off paint, adding texture and depth to her painterly strokes.

Louise Morgan’s work shows a passion beyond the dramatic mountains of Snowdonia – the emotion-led path of “finding the light.”
