In the midst of the post Christmas lockdown, Caernarfon gallery Life:Full Colour has raised £500 for local mental health charity Ynys Môn & Gwynedd Mind.
The gallery’s artist in residence, Nathan Jones from Anglesey, generously donated a 30 inch x 30 inch oil painting that paid tribute to all the health and social care workers who soldiered through the first lockdown in Wales. The painting features an abstract version of the Menai Suspension Bridge when it was lit up in rainbow colours as a thank you to carers and keyworkers in July last year.
The artwork was bought by Laltex Group, which includes Laltex Group Promotional Merchandise and Laltex Retail – RJM & KS Brands, in Lancashire and will hang in the Group’s headquarters. All funds from the purchase of the artwork will go to Ynys Môn & Gwynedd Mind which provides information and services concerning mental health and wellbeing to the people of Ynys Môn (Anglesey) and Gwynedd in North Wales.
Sara McKee, Life:Full Colour owner and founder, said: “We opened a gallery in the middle of a pandemic so we can bring colour and joy to people’s lives and we strongly believe in the power of art to stimulate a healthy heart and mind. However, sometimes it’s harder than ever to feel happiness and the pandemic has brought mental health issues to the fore. We’re passionate about ending the stigma that still surrounds mental illness and we’ll continue to raise money where we can for vital charities like Ynys Môn & Gwynedd Mind.”
Clare Bailey, Chief Officer of Ynys Môn & Gwynedd Mind said: “We are so grateful to all at Life: Full Colour gallery for raising money for our local mental health charity and to the artist Nathan Jones for donating his artwork for the cause. As a small charity we rely on donations to be able to continue the work we do and deliver support to the people of Anglesey and Gwynedd as best we can. The COVID pandemic has exacerbated existing mental health problems for many people, and the uncertainty, isolation and loss of income for many has also been a trigger.
“We have always believed that the arts are conduits for raising awareness and facilitating change, and that artists have always played a key role in social movements and addressing issues. They are central to change and there is still a need for both attitudinal and behavioural change around mental health, by both the wider society as well as those who work within services.”
Sanjay Mulchand, Managing Director at Laltex Group, added: “It was an honour to buy this painting by the talented Nathan Jones as it’s a beautiful symbol of the role our frontline health and care workers have played throughout the pandemic. Local charities like Ynys Môn & Gwynedd Mind have also made a significant difference, and we’ll continue to support charities like them as it’s people on the ground who have the capacity to help people the most.”
