Art is life: Conwy Art Weekend musings

Curating the Conwy Art Weekend, our first exhibition and workshop series, has taught me a great deal about communication, building relationships, not making assumptions and really listening.

We staged our first show at St Mary’s in Conwy at the end of October and a week later I’ve been reflecting on its impact on our local community and the artists I’ve met.

We have had fantastic feedback from all those who participated in our fresco workshops:

Dr Alan Pascuzzi is an inspiring, encouraging teacher filling his discourse with great anecdotes from the history of art and in particular Michelangelo. More importantly, he’s a professional sculptor and we were treated to an exhibition of some of his sublime bronze figures and alabaster Madonnas.

Alan gave us a lecture on Michelangelo’s career from apprentice to Ghirlandaio to his genius confirmed through his fresco paintings in the Sistine Chapel. This extremely intense combination of artistic endeavour in just 3-days is a testament to Pascuzzi’s passion and energy for the art he creates.

LifeFullColour has given several of us a wonderful experience of painting in a different medium -frescos on to wet mortar like Michelangelo. How exciting! Alan Pascuzzi, based in Florence, guided us through this so that we came away with our own fresco

One thing is clear from my discussions with all the artists I’m beginning to get to know: their art comes from their heart, their inner being, their soul. Their passion is front and centre in every discussion I have. For them, Art is not a transactional business. It’s about giving something of themselves away every time. And we should never make assumptions in our understanding – whether we adopt commercial approaches that are foreign to artists or artists use language that we misinterpret. Honesty, openness, integrity and trust must be our collective values to be successful.

That’s why at Life: Full Colour we’re determined to build long lasting, meaningful relationships with artists we love. We are art historians, writers and visionaries. Our passion is to bring great art to as many people as we can, supporting artists to reach a receptive audience. We’ve spent many years championing living life in full colour for wellbeing throughout our commercial work. This new chapter focuses on bringing Fine Art to the forefront of that.

After all, we passionately believe Art is Life.
